Bust envy
April 15, 2008 by Haidee
In my quest for stylish design on a dime, I’ve recently become obsessed with busts. Yes, head sculptures.
It seems that busts are becoming an increasingly popular interior design accessory. This objet d’art is typically found in historic societies and educational institutions, but busts have been popping their little heads into everyday decor and interior decorating mags like this one from House Beautiful.
I’ve spent several hours looking for one at the right price in an effort to infuse an intellectual, library-like ambiance into my bookshelves. Amazon has some excellent options and variety: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A13339471&page=1 But I often try to keep my searches local. Escpecially on this one so I can keep the shipping price down.
I saw these at our own Artful Lodger for less than $50 each.
Or wake up to TJ. Only $68 at the Monticello online store.
Or perhaps resin girl to hold my wide-brimmed hat. $89 at Richmond’s ShadesofLight.com

This site is so Charlottesville.
When I moved here, the first thing I asked was, “Does anyone shop at the Pier One Imports Store,” and “Why would such a small town have a Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi dealership?”
Then it slowly occurred to me. This is Charlottesville, and for some, Class, Quality, ‘Style’ and Elegance are all that matter.
Thanks for the comment, five. This is indeed a very stylish town. And, actually, I do shop at Pier One! I found a fabulous 3 ft white birdcage there that sits in my bay window.
Haha. Great post. Not at all what I thought it was going to be about.
FYI, the Shades of Light Decorating Outlet in Midlothian is having their annual clearance sale this Saturday, from 10 AM to 4 PM. I stumbled upon the place by accident a few years ago and was very impressed by the quantity of merchandise there.
Thanks for the info, TheUpstart. I’m so bummed I won’t be there! Are you going? Can you report back on your finds?
Heads up if you are still in the market for one of these. Ballard Designs just put a few on sale. A set of two busts is $34.99. That’s a pretty good deal!
Still in the market for a bust? This bust candle is super cool and a little spooky… perfect for Halloween!
