Local Artist’s Bright Idea! Contest and discount for CvilleStyle readers
June 29, 2008 by Haidee · 10 Comments
Another local Etsy artist recently contacted me to show me his very creative objets d’arte made from light bulbs. What a bright idea! I’m all for recycling and reusing objects in new ways!
Ray’s signature piece is a cement lightbulb coat hook, pictured above, and CvilleStyle will be giving away one of these bad boys. Such a clever design on which to hang your hat! Read more
Oh happy dress
June 27, 2008 by Haidee · Leave a Comment
I fell in love with this dress the moment I saw it on one of my favorite sites, www.tracyporter.com. It is vibrant, versatile and oh so happy. A must have for my upcoming bachelorette party in the Hamptons. A bonus - this dress goes well over pants for Spring / early Fall wear. I would buy this for $264, and if you’ve been reading my posts, you know that I am very particular about any clothing purchase over, say, $200. I’m not cheap, just particular.
But today must be my lucky day. Within hours of spotting it on Tracy Porter, I receive an email notification that one of my DC friends has launched her store online. And what do I find for over $130 less…this happy little dress! Yipee! Wow - this is a rare price shopping moment.

My friend’s store is called Fornash. It is located in Georgetown (DC), but she carries a great selection on he website. Very cool accessories, such as these gold bamboo bracelets which would look great with the dress. (I’ve spotted her bold silk clutches in Novel)
Although I’ll be takin’ my business to Fornash this go around, I encourage readers to check out Tracy Porter. You might be more familiar with her ceramics designs (which are 50% off right now on the site), but I think she’s budding into a little lifestyle brand. I really enjoy her site. Lots of eye candy and videos discussing the products and a great blog.
Mary Kay Multivitamin Disaster

Before you read on, if you sell Mary Kay, please know that I respect what you do and like some of the products you sell. OK…enjoy…
I recently attended a Mary Kay party hosted by friend on behalf of one of her colleagues who had recently joined the cosmetic company’s ground forces. The soiree was really quite charming with pink prosecco and appetizers, fresh flowers and free samples. I was rather excited to attend one of these infamous sessions and quite curious to hear the schpeel. Read more

Bring the B&B home
June 18, 2008 by Haidee · 5 Comments

I consider one of Charlottesville’s greatest assets to be its choice of fabulous B&B’s. One of my favorites, the Clifton Inn , is like spending a night at a friend’s country estate.
We recently spent an evening there, and it got me thinking about how I could make my home feel more like a getaway. I took note of some of the details that made our stay so refreshing and memorable. I’m not talking about room keys and gourmet chefs. I’m talking about the little things like always keeping the table set and relaxing music playing in the background. Those details that make you feel taken care of… Read more
Shop Local Etsy

I am by no means a master crafter, but every now and then, I’ll buy a few yards of fabric, drag out my sewing machine and hot glue gun and make a pillow or lavender sachet. Fortunately, if I’m not in the mood to make, I don’t have to look far or pay much for shipping for handmade goods.
A search for Cville crafters on Etsy, the virtual marketplace for handmade and craft items, found several in our area. While they are all quite talented, a few caught my eye… Read more
Score at Duo

I had to share with the world my most recent score. I visited Duo yesterday (the half-new / half-gently-worn boutique) and walked out with several things…a cute $12 white j.crew skirt, a $12 j.crew tunic top, an adorable BR empire waist dress for $18, AND…
The cutest Emilio Pucci top for $50! What UVA college girl didn’t want this top? Yipee! It’s mine now!
Gentle Peel
June 14, 2008 by Haidee · 3 Comments
After 20 minutes in the health & beauty aisle at Whole Foods, I walked away with this little gem from EarthScience.
I have always been afraid of the term peel. It sounds so cruel. But I figured I could try a “gentle” peel, especially at $14.95. Read more
