Benefit’s Play Stick…another make-up must have!

July 3, 2008 by Haidee

I can’t believe I’ve not yet written about this make-up must have - Benefit’s Play Stick. Funny name aside, this is one item I’ve tried to go without (we’re no where near a Sephora) but just cannot find an acceptable replacement. I was reminded to post about it when I received an email from Benefit, one of my favorite make-up brands, offering free shipping (enter code JulyFour). So you know I’ve ordered two!

This is one of those items, when it nears the end, I start digging it out with a Q-tip because I can’t spare a smidgen. Especially great for hot weather in the summer, the Benefit Play Stick is a very lightweight stick foundation in a wide variety of shades that blends extremely well into your skin. I’ve yet to find a foundation that looks so natural and feels like you’ve got nothing on.

It does a great job of evening out your skin. When I only need a little evening out or covering up, I use a brush and blend it in with my moisturizer. Instant tinted moisturizer! It also acts as a concealer, so you really can’t go wrong with one of these babies.

You do need to find one that works perfectly with your skin tone or all of the abovementioned benefits won’t happen. To test ‘em out, I’m afraid you have to find a Sephora or major department store.

What what what? (in the sound of Kyle’s mom’s voice) That would be awesome. Where did you hear this?????

Sephora and JC Penny have teamed up, so I guess it’s possible. Our JC Penny is tiny, but some of the larger ones have mini-Sephora stores inside, kind of like a department.

The on-again Albemarle Place is another possible location, as are the spaces that will be vacant at Barracks when Albemarle Place opens (one large chain is already confirmed to be moving up there).

OMG That would be awesome if we got a Sephora. They have the best perfume selection and as a French perfume junkie, it is my idea of heaven.

Until we hear a source from the original person, I wouldn’t get too excited. The closest stores to us are those “mini” stores inside JC Penny stores (one in Richmond, another in Williamsburg). If those cities can only support the stripped down version, I doubt we’ll get much more.

Cvillain rocks at finding sources. I’ll sound the horn to send out the troops so we can get the real scoop. I am always asking for info on the retail development along 29. I once heard Dean & Deluca, but who knows for sure.

In the meantime, I guess it isn’t the end of the world to go to Fashion Square. One of the dept stores (I think Belk) carries Bobby Brown and Chanel makeup.

Sorry ladies. I don’t want to say we aren’t getting one, but it hasn’t been announced yet.

The only confirmed stores I’ve heard for Albemarle Place are Barnes & Noble, REI, Fresh Farms (like Whole Foods), and a big movie theater. Not saying they don’t have more contracts signed, though.

Sugar Land, TX is getting one before Cville??

I was at Fashion Square mall yesterday and saw a giant sign covering an empty storefront that seemed to be announcing a Sephora store. It said “Coming Fall 2008″ and mentioned something about a workshop for interested people (potential employees?) I almost did a cartwheel! Go check it out, it’s in the same wing of the mall that hold Abercrombie, but across the aisle from them.

Hope it’s a true Sephora store and not a lame JC Penney kiosk-sized one.

Yipee! Thanks for the scoop, Lulu. I am a very happy camper! We’ll have to start a weekly column on new beauty products will of course require that I visit the store once a week ;)

I called Mall info and they said it’s definitely a Sephora store and they’re accepting applications. Hm, I already work way over 40 hrs/wk, and hated working retail in college, but how sweet would an employee discount be? Would they let me work just 1 hour a week? ;-)

Wow, I’m excited– Benefit, Nars blushes and lipsticks, Anastasia for eyebrows, Bare Minerals, Diorshow mascara, Stila, and perfume perfume perfume! But I’ll still be loyal to my girls at the MAC counter @ Belk.

Belk is going to take a huge hit with Sephora in the mall. They might actually have to step it up a bit! Hooray!

For how long has Belk been the only store in town where you could buy certain, major make up brands? A decade? Two?
