No More Slip Ups!
September 18, 2008 by HeatherM
While the summer season winds down (fall starts on Monday, eek!), and temperatures dip into the mid-50’s overnight, I hesitate to even write about skirts for fear they will be an endangered species for the next 7 months. However, in true Charlottesville fashion, we’re bound to experience at least one more heat wave before the real fall and winter weather kicks in.
So I’m going to lay my pet peeve on the line: I can’t stand it when women don’t wear slips under their [see-through] skirts. Call me old-fashioned (I’m not); call me an old soul (ok, maybe) (but please don’t call me old!). I don’t want to see a woman’s g-string nor the silhouette of her legs through her skirt. I’m sure there will be many-a-man who will disagree, but I believe in a little mystery, leaving some things to the imagination.
So is it that women don’t realize that others can see through their skirts? Do they not realize that natural light is very different than the light in front of their bedroom mirrors? Are they just not accustomed to wearing them? Or are they actually trying to reveal a little more to others? Please help me understand.
Interestingly, I heard of a cool site, Your Slip is Showing, where they sell ornamental slips that are actually meant to show below your skirt, yet still provide added coverage. My favorite is the Madam! Feather slip:
If that’s not your thing and you’re just in the market for a simple slip, I own and suggest this lightweight, 18″ VanityFair Body Foundation Pettiskirt from Kohls in both black and white:
For those of you who already enjoy the slimming effects of Spanx products, check out their Hide and Sleek Half Slip for $52:
Derriere de Soie is another great local option for pretty under things, including slips. Currently they’re selling a Calvin Klein half slip with a barely there feel for $36:
If you really want to splurge (and why not, you’ll wear it!), check out the Bodas sheer tactel underslip for $68:
With the wide variety of lengths, styles and colors, there’s something for everyone. Please (!) go out and buy one before next Spring!

i heartily endorse the hide-n-sleek from spanx; pencil skirts are soooooo unforgiving!
CWB: I’m impressed. I’ve never tried spanx, but they look painful!
If they will hold in my wine gut, I’l take em!
To tell you the truth, I’ve never really thought about slips. But one thing I love about them is…how they look when you take off the skirt. Classic sexiness that adds another level of intrigue in the bedroom. Tee hee.
I agree with Peekaboo!
Another advantage of getting into a slip now…they are ideal for the winter to keep your tights from sticking to your skirt!
I wish slips weren’t so taboo these days. I feel like it is looked down upon to wear a slip when it should be looked at as a way to keep the unmentionables hidden!! There’s a reason slips and other undergarments are created…to be purchased and worn!!!
I love slips, only they are too hot for me in the summer, but are great for fall and winter. Well, maybe not winter, then I would wear slacks!
