Have your morning coffee, Trailside

September 23, 2008 by HeatherM

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, head to Old Trail Golf Course, just 15 miles west of Charlottesville in Crozet (anyone can go, it’s public!). Not for golf, but for your morning wakeup call. There you’ll find one of the best-kept coffee secrets in Central Virginia: Trailside Coffee.

Started by a native Charlottesvillian (a rare breed these days with all of the transplants), Marcia McGee, the coffee cart is set up in the pro shop, with plans to open a full café and shop in the town center by January 1, 2009.

A woman-owned business, Trailside Coffee is committed to free trade/organic coffee and offers grinds from Williamsburg Coffee & Tea. They also serve the cure-all of teas: a Mate Latte, a South-American herb that offers 9x the antioxidants of green tea and a greater energy boost while delivering less caffeine! It’s also said to speed up metabolism while curbing appetite, resulting in weightloss. Sounds like a miracle to me. Oh, and their cups are made from recycled content, so you can feel good about grabbing one to go. If you still feel un-green, they offer discounts to those who bring in their own mugs.

Once the shop gets under way, Trailside coffee will offer a wide variety of fruit smoothies and light fare such as muffins, pastries, bagels, paninis, soups, salads and more.

Hurry in and try their seasonal Pumpkin-spiced latte— it roasts the pants off of Starbucks’ similar version. I highly recommend the Breve—an espresso made with steamed half and half instead of milk—it’s lip-smacking good. Of course if you do get the Breve, you may want to follow up your morning with a hike at Sugar Hollow or Humpback Rocks to work it off!

What a perfect way to start the day: a cup of joe on the patio, with free WiFi to catch up on all the latest styles at www.cvillestyle.com!).

I stopped in this weekend too! The coffee is delicious, and the setting is gorgeous. I loved sitting out on the patio, golfers passing through. I didn’t want to leave!

Trailside is fantastic, I can’t wait until the store opens. Their coffee is so great, it had me (literally) doing cartwheels on the golf course… Would definitely check it out!
