Partridge & Grace Designs—20% off*

October 28, 2008 by HeatherM

There are many dynamic duos that come to mind: Thelma & Louise, Lewis & Clark, Donnie & Marie, Starsky & Hutch, Batman & Robin, Simon & Garfunkel, Dolce & Gabbana…Charlottesville is home to Debra & Denise, a powerful pair you’ll want to get to know. Meet the sisters behind Partridge & Grace Designs—named for maternal and paternal grandmothers. A custom framing and design studio offering retail home accessories, Partridge & Grace will help you re-think your interior space.

Unlike most traditional frame shops, they have everything on the premises for custom art framing—that means they can work with you one on one and get creative to meet your needs because they’re sawing molding and cutting glass and mats right there in the shop. They have the training and expertise to produce top quality work.

But it doesn’t stop there. While many people fear the overwhelming decision that comes with picking a mat and frame (and have likened it to that of visiting the dentist), the women of Partridge & Grace want this to be a relaxing process for you and will guide you along the way. They also offer art selection (which helps you identify & define your preferences if you’re on the fence, or they can actually find matches for your personal taste) and layout & placement (not only art installation, but an assessment of which combinations work best, and where). These two have an innate sense for interior décor that is timeless.

You’ll want to check out the home accents they offer—old lanterns and birdhouses, oversized apples and pears, chairs and benches, pillows and lamps, a long wood bread plate, a large pitch fork a la American Gothic and of course, framed pieces of art (both antique and modern, items such as lithographs, original engravings, photography, etc.). All of the items help set the tone for the shop and have been handpicked at antique shops or art shows. Plus they change constantly as inventory is updated. And from now until November 1st, get 20% off your purchase. You might just find that perfect finishing touch, a nice housewarming gift for a friend, or get started on your holiday shopping.

There is just a feeling you get as you walk through the red door, from the hip background music to the vintage decorative items that adorn the shop; it’s a juxtaposition of new and old. You’ll want to pull up a chair and make yourself at home. Maybe it’s escapism, but I love hearing the story of how these sisters were both at a crossroads in their life (cue: corny music) and figured out a way to live their dream.

Partridge & Grace is located at 208 Third Street NE, just one block off the downtown mall by Fleurie Restaurant and the Paramount.

*Offer excludes custom framing, John Grant photography and InLeaf textiles.
