Sweet Dreams
November 19, 2008 by She's Crafty · 4 Comments
Visions of sugar plums will soon dance in many a head this holiday, so why not help summon that sweet sleep with the gift of a homemade lavender pillow? As everyone will be feeling the economic squeeze this season, not only will this be easier on your wallet, it might also help the recipient to relax! Read more
A Novel Idea
With Thanksgiving around the corner, you might be headed “home” to family (be it yours or someone else’s). Reward the chef or hostess (who is probably going to slave for hours making the turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, vegetables, pies, etc.) with a personalized carving board from Novel. A single monogram in the middle turns an ordinary and practical gift into a special one. It takes 5-7 business days, so to be safe, order by November 14th if you’re getting out of dodge on Wednesday the 26th!

Red Bird Ink

Red Bird Ink’s stationery designs from the “Snow Collection” immediately remind me of Robert Frost’s poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.
Just in time for winter, the limited edition collection is inspired by memories of hiking through the snow. Handmade paper evokes the texture and reflective quality of snow, while the letterpressed blue gives off a cool feeling. The cards are then blind debossed to create the tracks in the snow, adding further depth. Can you spot the owl? Read more
Button Magnets
October 3, 2008 by She's Crafty · 5 Comments
As women, we tend to fall into 2 categories when returning home with a new clothing purchase (such as a sweater or pants): those who take the extra button and throw it immediately in the garbage, knowing there is no chance in h*ll that we will ever make use of it; and those who carefully store the extra button in a safe place, knowing full well we will never actually sew it o to anything!
Quite honestly, what is the likelihood that a. we keep a sweater or pants in use long enough that we lose a button and b. upon losing said button, that we can actually locate the original match? Now, I was a mathlete in high school and should be able to calculate that probability. However, it makes my brain hurt and I’m going to go with my gut: slim to never. Read more
The Domino Effect
September 27, 2008 by Haidee · 12 Comments
Once a month, I open my mailbox with a squeal of delight to see my Domino magazine waiting for me. I typically save it for later that night when I can sit back with a glass of wine and devour the publication in one fell swoop. I swoon over just about every page of the magazine with its fresh designs, modern-yet-classic styles, and unique products. It is one of my little monthly indulgences that usually leaves me looking around my own home thinking of ways to integrate what I’ll call the Domino Effect.

I recently came across the most delightful little cocktail napkins with what looked like traditional monograms, but upon second glance, turned out to be outrageous acronyms representing some oh-too-true statements.

Tour a Picture Perfect Bunglow in the Heart of Charlottesville
August 31, 2008 by Haidee · 2 Comments
I recently had the pleasure of touring a charming and impeccably-designed 1927 bungalow in the heart of Charlottesville. First spotted on her walking route, the house immediately caught Lynn Garnett’s attention. She and her husband kept an eye on it until, one day, they saw a For Sale By Owner sign and decided to move just 1/2 mile and make the quaint Arts & Crafts style home their own.
O’Suzannah’s New Digs
August 27, 2008 by HeatherM · 2 Comments
Virginia Woolf wanted a room with a view. O’Suzannah’s owner just wanted a better view of her room.
And now she has it. The local shop selling all-things-good is up and running in its new location on 4th Street NE on the downtown mall (up the street from Five Guys & Enoteca). Read more
