Button Magnets

As women, we tend to fall into 2 categories when returning home with a new clothing purchase (such as a sweater or pants): those who take the extra button and throw it immediately in the garbage, knowing there is no chance in h*ll that we will ever make use of it; and those who carefully store the extra button in a safe place, knowing full well we will never actually sew it o to anything!

Quite honestly, what is the likelihood that a. we keep a sweater or pants in use long enough that we lose a button and b. upon losing said button, that we can actually locate the original match? Now, I was a mathlete in high school and should be able to calculate that probability. However, it makes my brain hurt and I’m going to go with my gut: slim to never. Read more

With no ban on baggies, what to do with your plastic bags?

Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal reported on the latest city to enforce a ban on plastic bags. Beginning in 2010, shoppers in Los Angeles will have to either carry their own tote or pay a store $.25 for a paper bag. I wonder, would the City of Cville consider such a mandate?

 

It certainly wouldn’t be convenient, but I like the idea. The McIntire Recycling Center has several signs to remind folks that they do not accept plastic bags. So, what do you do with these little buggers? Perhaps you hoard them until you can take them to the plastic bag bins at most grocery stores. Or maybe you reuse them for doggie duty. Or maybe you have no choice but to toss them.

I am by no means a master crafter, but every now and then, I’ll buy a few yards of fabric, drag out my sewing machine and hot glue gun and make a pillow or lavender sachet. Fortunately, if I’m not in the mood to make, I don’t have to look far or pay much for shipping for handmade goods.
